Animal cutting to the beat video

This is a cutting to the beat task which I have completed in order to practice working with Final Cut and improving my abilities of cutting to the beat. I was given a variety of different videos along with a selection of soundtracks. I have then chosen one soundtrack to use in this video and I cut up bits of videos and put them together according to the cuts and the beats. This task has majorly helped me get more familiar with Final Cut and its tools. By improving my Final cut skills I will be able to navigate better on final cut and will be very useful to me when it comes to editing my own music video.

Idiot's guide to storyboarding

This is an idiot's guide to storyboard which clearly shows the steps involved in drawing a storyboard. We will soon have to draw our own 80 shot storyboard for our music video. Completing this blog task has taught me more about sotry boading as well as having a better knowledge of how to draw them, which will aid me a lot when it comes to story boarding.

This is a video, of a collection of opinion and feedback which we have received for out first initial idea, our first treatment. Overall, we have received a positive response from the people we have asked. However, some people did not thin that the treatment was as good as others did. Based on the good and bad response which we have received we are not able to improve our plan for the music video and we will write a second amended treatment. Doing this blog task has helped us deeply, create a better treatment which appals to the chosen target audience better.

Research into band/artist

Wordle of competitors

Using a website called Wordle I have created a collage of some of the competitors within the EDM industry. Creating this Wordle has made me realise a number of things about the genre. The first thing being that most artists are solo artists rather than bands, secondly there is a clear majority of male artists against female artists. In fact, there are no female artists in this selection of artists however, it is very common for female artists to feature in the songs of the artists included above. For example, Nyla features in a number of Major Lazer's songs and so does Rihanna in Calvin Harris' songs. Thirdly, Most of the EDM artists go by a stage name, rather their real name. Completing this task has got me beginning to think about which artist I will be interested to look into when it comes to planning and production. I will be able to go back to this Wordle when needed.

Mood board to suggest identity of band/artist and similarities/competitors

This is a mood board which I have created using Photoshop, the aim of it being to identify the identity and characteristics of my chosen artist. Clearly shown by the mood board my chosen artist is Clavin Harris. I have included a wide selection of pictures which I believe are appropriate for the aim of the task including pictures of the artist himself throughout his career as an Artist, certain shots from his music videos that I think perfectly identify/ portray his genre, album covers and general pictures of his lifestyle.

Timeline of Planning

This is a Timeline I have created with a software names HSTRY. The purpose of this task is in order to keep on track of all tasks and not fall behind. It includes all of the tasks within the planning and production process. Setting a deadline date will encourage me to hand in everything on time and not fall behind. Having an idea of when every task needs to be done will help me to structure my working hours effectively. I found HSTRY a very useful software to use and it was easy to work with, meaning I would potentially use it again on my blog when suitable. Overall, I believe that this is a necessary task within the research section of my blog as a tool to see where I stand in relation to the whole project. 

Time lapse of digipak/website/album advert conventions/layout

These are a series of Timelapse videos which I have created using a software named Final Cut Pro. The filming process of the video was done at home using a DSLR and a tripod. Creating these time- lapse videos has developed my filming and editing skills further. The editing consisted of speeding up the pace of the video in order to make it a time lapse 

Digipak:

The drafting of the digipak includes taking a piece of A3 plain paper, and measuring 6 12 x 12 squares. Following that I have labelled each of the squares with a title. Commencing with the top right corner being the inside right of the digipack and includes the lyrics of the songs in the album, followed by the inside centre which includes the actual CD, and then by the inside left, which has a personal message from the artists as well as credits and social media subscription. The second set of squares consists of the extra panel containing some photographs from the artist's album photoshoot, followed by the back cover and the front cover, which includes the songs list, barcode, artists image, name and the album name. Of course this is just an initial draft and only includes the basic codes and conventions of a Digipak, when it comes to creating the real thing I will be able to look back at this task in order to get some further ideas and inspiration.

Album Advert:

The drafting of the Album Advert was done to a very minimal level, as it is the product which contains the least information and and codes and conventions in it. There are five main things which need to be included when creating an album advert being: The artist's name, The release date of the album, main image (usually a mid- shot or close-up shot of the artist), the name of the album and social media and other subscriptions. However, there are some additional things that may be added such as reviews, features and singles. When it comes to creating my real album advert further things such as colour scheme and fonts will needed to be considered, however, i will be able to look back to my draft in order to get an idea of the basic layout and where to start.

Artist's Website

Finally, the artist website is the product which includes the most information, and in my opinion must be very detailed in order to look good and professional. The draft I have created only includes the main codes and conventions, and a brief idea of how an Artist's website looks like.

Analysis of generic conventions and sub genre

Research: Task 4 pt.2- Music Categories- Narrative, Conceptual and Performance

 As an introduction to the new unit of Music videos we have looked at a number of music videos as example of the different categories of music videos. Focusing on three specific categories being Conceptual, narrative and Performance. The first video being 'Pillow Talk' by Zayn Malik as an example of a Performance video, 'Paradise' by Coldplay as and example of conceptual and lastly 'Thinking of You' by Katy Perry' as an example of a narrative video. In this emaze, I have briefly explained the basic conventions of each category as well as including a short conclusion of the
history of music videos.

In this task I have researched what a Digipaks, Artist's website and album advert is and why they are important. Doing this task has provided me with great knowledge of why these should be done an how they aid the success of the piece. By researching what should be included on the Digipak, I am no aware of what information I need to include on my Digipak in order to ensure that it looks as real as possible. Iv'e had a look at a variety of different Digipaks and how they are designed. Researching into album advert/cd adverts has informed me of what is included on the advert and how they are laid out.

This is the online Blog which I will be using to show the process of my research and planning, production and Evaluation. This blog will act as a detailed follow up to my production work, the brief I was set is to recreate a music video along with two other members of my class, in addition to designing and creating a digipack and an advert of it which will be done individually. I will be researching deeply into the music video industry, in order to find out what the codes and conventions are and to complete my coursework to the best of my ability.

I have studied media for a number of years now, completing GCSE Media Studies and my AS. During my years of study I have gained many creative skills, and the knowledge of how to use various programmes such as Photoshop and Final cut. I expect this year to be challenging however very toughtful  and interesting as I have never done anything such as putting together a treatment and creating a digipack.
